Telling stories is one of the most powerful methods an educator has to impact, guide, and inspire students and colleagues. Storytelling forges connections between people and ideas. Stories convey the culture, history, and values that unite people. Evidence-based research has revealed the outstanding effect on student and teacher social development, and social development lays the foundation for children’s advancement through middle childhood, adolescence, and beyond. Storytelling promotes the development of skills that directly relate to how academically and professionally competent we are later in life, and having strong interpersonal skills are fundamental for building meaningful relationships with peers, teachers, and parents.
